COURSES
The Centre for Educational Development in
Health Arusha offers two main types of trainings. These are
long courses leading to Diploma awards and short courses.
DIPLOMA IN
HEALTH PERSONNEL EDUCATION
One of the
strategies adapted by CEDHA to strengthen the health system
is training of teachers of health workers in education,
management and research skills so that they can be better
teachers and managers of the health schools. A full time one
year course is provided leading to an award of a Diploma in
Health Personnel Education.
Objectives of
the course
The objectives
of the course are to:

Equip
trainees with knowledge on planning, implementation and
evaluation of educational programs

Equip
trainees with managerial and or administrative skills
to become better managers of their schools
-
Enable
trainees to conduct Educational research using rational
and sound approaches
-
Provide
trainees with opportunity to identify, prepare and use
Health Learning materials effectively
-
Enable
trainees to keep abreast with current issues in health
and health related developments
-
Equip
trainees with communication skills for effective
communication, counselling and guidance
-
Equip
trainees with knowledge, attitude and skills required in
teaching and learning situations.
Entry
requirements
Both females
and Males aged 25-45 years are eligible. A minimum of four
passes in ordinary level or advance education is a
prerequisite. Candidates must be graduates of a recognised
medical, nursing or allied health institution with at least
two years working experience. English is the medium of
instruction. Prospective candidates have to pass an oral
interview.

Resources
Cedha staff are
experienced and specialised in a wide range of fields from
medical education, health management and planning, public
health, health systems research, information and
litho-graphic technology, graphics art design, resource
centre development and catering services. The centre
provides accommodation with full board facilities for course
participants.
There are five
classrooms equipped with audio-visual facilities and a
resource centre (library) with a wide collection of books,
journals and periodicals on various fields. Within the
centre there is a printing unit equipped with facilities for
production of learning materials.

Foreign
students - USD 7,620
The fee will
cover tuition, accommodation, meals, medical insurance,
stationeries, field work for teaching practice, research;
caution money and residence permit to foreign students.

DIPLOMA IN
HEALTH
MANAGEMENT
Course
Objectives:
The general
objective of the course is to improve is improve health
management skills and practices within the Districts Health
Systems to bring out overall improvement in Quality of care.
Course
Structure:
A course
comprises a foundation Module and 8 course Modules. Each
module takes two weeks for residential face to face with
facilitator, after which one continues with field
attachment/assignments at their work station.
Foundation
Module:
Is an
introduction to the diploma . it covers communication,
study, writing and computer skills together with basic
statistics and epidemiology.
The following
8 Core modules will be accomplished.

Duration of The
course :
It takes about
3 years to accomplish the diploma.
Qualifying for
Diploma Award
The Modules
follows an accumulative credit system and amount to 1200
hours of study. In addition to classroom teaching each
module has assignment attached to it that are to be
completed at the work place. The course is accredited by
NACTE.
Eligibility
The course is
open to health workers within the public , private, faith-
based and NGO sector with either a certificate ,Diploma , or
degree recognized by the ministry of Health. You should have
the minimum of one year working experience, preferably at
the district level

SHORT
COURSES
CEDHA serves as the Northern Zone Health Resource Centre (ZHRC)
catering for four regions (Manyara, Arusha, Kilimanjaro,
Tanga), 29 districts and 30 Health Training Institutions (HTIs)
As a centre for continuing education; demand-driven short
courses lasting for 1 - 6 weeks are periodically conducted.
Such courses include teaching methodology, health systems
research, health management and planning, primary health
care, management of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted
diseases, community-based health care and reproductive and
child health.
